VOL. VII

Placidity

they say blood is blue

before it mixes with oxygen

the combination of the two

gives your veins’ ichor

a rusty hue

I have never seen it happen

outside of period commercials

that are too ashamed to show

the real color of your monthly flow

*image not enlarged to show actual size*

it is no surprise

“blue makes people feel safe,”

says the marketing agent

over satellite

why else would hospitals and electric companies prefer aquamarine?

or toilet paper and household products

don a royal blue sheen?

to make you feel squeaky clean

for others it is the color of dreams

floating in the ocean or sky

the cold color of someone’s cheek

after a goodbye
