Skinned Knees

sleepyhead

Skinned Knees
sleepyhead

you sleep on your side

arms guarding your chest

protecting your heart

or so I should guess

through the window

the sun wanders in

little rays bounce

off your golden hair

as you lay

dreaming

I never knew

a real person

could be

so beautiful

while sleeping

although I never said it:

I (that four letter word) you

you know I do

it's in your eyes I long to swim

run my fingers over your bare skin

kiss the lips that bound my heart

even though we're shores apart

I like my head best

when it's next to your head
